This week’s Local Spotlight is an interview with Cory Moore, owner of Beacon Outdoor Lighting, a Naples-based firm that’s redefining what outdoor lighting can be.

Tell us about your business — what do you do and who do you serve?

Beacon Outdoor Lighting is a luxury landscape lighting design-build firm based in Naples, Florida. We specialize in high-end, estate-sized lighting projects throughout Southwest Florida. Our clients are homeowners with exceptional properties who value quality, craftsmanship, and design-driven solutions.

How did you get started, and what inspired you to launch your business?

My background is in luxury architecture and landscape design. I started Beacon because I saw a gap in the outdoor lighting industry—specifically, a lack of professional design expertise at the high level other trades already operate in. I wanted to bring architectural excellence and thoughtful design into the lighting world.

What’s your favorite part about running your business in this community?

One of my favorite parts about running Beacon in Naples is working with the eclectic homes and visionary homeowners. Naples is home to some of the most sought-after real estate in the country, and it’s a privilege to bring these estates to life through landscape lighting.

What makes your business unique in your neighborhood?

What sets Beacon apart is our design-first approach. Every project begins with a thorough in-house design process, including full CAD drawings, cut-through sections, and photorealistic renderings, long before installation begins. We leverage our deep expertise in landscape and architectural design to create lighting systems that seamlessly integrate with the home and landscape.

How do you stay connected with the local community?

One of the best parts of working in Naples is the opportunity to collaborate daily with other top-tier professionals in the design and building community. These partnerships fuel creativity and elevate every project.

What local partnerships or collaborations have been meaningful to you?

We’ve had the honor of working with incredible professionals—from our SEO partner Charlie Rose at Traffic Engine to collaborators like KKG, CGU, and Newbury North. The relationships we’ve built make working in this town both fun and rewarding.

Challenges & Wins

What has been one of your biggest challenges, and how did you overcome it?
One of our biggest challenges was managing rapid growth. For the first two years, Beacon grew solely through word of mouth, which was an incredible blessing but wasn’t scalable. Partnering with an agency like HeyNeighbor allowed us to implement a holistic marketing strategy that consistently drives leads and gives us the freedom to focus on executing the work at a high level.

What moment or milestone are you most proud of?
We’ve been named WAC Contractor of the Year for three years running—an incredible honor considering WAC is one of the world’s largest LED manufacturers. To be chosen from tens of thousands of contractors nationwide is a milestone that reflects our team's commitment to excellence.

How have you used local advertising (like HeyNeighbor) to grow your business?

Any funny or surprising story from working with local customers?
One of the most unexpected blessings has been the friendships and mentorships I’ve formed with many of our clients—including Fortune 50 CEOs. I’ve been humbled by their willingness to share their wisdom and support a young entrepreneur who’s eager, diligent, and committed to delivering real results.

Looking Ahead

What’s next for your business—any exciting plans or projects coming up?
We’re continuing to execute at a high level and have some major projects on the horizon. While I can’t share all the details yet, let’s just say they involve one of the most expensive pieces of real estate in the world… Civil War-era cannons… and pirate treasure. Big things are coming.
